Northumberland OPP – Brighton Youth Charged with Sexual Assault, Possession of Child Pornography

(MUNICIPALITY OF BRIGHTON, ON) – The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges relating to child pornography after a four-month investigation.

On August 14, 2023, OPP were dispatched to a property in the Municipality of Brighton where a report of non-consensual distribution of an intimate recording was provided. At that point, an investigation was initiated which spanned approximately four months.

On December 20, 2023, the Northumberland OPP Crime Unit arrested a 17-year-old from Brighton as a result of the investigation.

The individual, who cannot be named due to the provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), was charged with the following:

  • Sexual Assault
  • Possession of Child Pornography
  • Imports, Distributes, Sells or Possesses for the Purpose of Distribution or Sale any Child Pornography
  • Makes, Prints, Publishes or Possesses for the Purpose of Publication any Child Pornography.
