Northumberland OPP – Commercial Motor Vehicle Complaint Leads to Multiple Charges (Name Released)

(ALNWICK-HALDIMAND TOWNSHIP, ON) – On November 2, 2023, at approximately 11:23 a.m., the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a number of traffic complaints regarding a tractor trailer on Highway 401 in the Alnwick-Haldimand area.

Northumberland OPP members located the vehicle westbound on Highway 401 and performed a traffic stop without incident.

Gursharan BAJWA (age 52) of Brampton, was subsequently arrested and charged with the following offences:

·      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

·      Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)

·      Dangerous operation

A further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on December 6, 2023.

The OPP remains committed to taking alcohol/drug impaired drivers off our roads through enforcement and public education. If you suspect that someone is driving while impaired by alcohol or drugs, it is important to call 9-1-1 to report it.
