BECN Celebrates Three Decades of Supporting Small Business in Northumberland County

In Local

In recognition of Small Business Week from October 15 to 21st, the Business and Entrepreneurship Centre Northumberland (BECN) is highlighting the significant impact of small business development in the community as they celebrate over 30 years of operation in Northumberland.

For three decades, the BECN has been a leading source for business information, strategy, resources and education in Northumberland. The BECN offers micro grants, free consultations, training, information and resources, and workshops and seminars for community members thinking of starting or expanding a small business in Northumberland.

“Throughout the past 30 years of operation, our team has connected over 16,000 clients with the knowledge, skills and resources they need to succeed and grow their business,” states Northumberland County Economic Development Manager Rob Day. “The success of local business can be felt throughout the entire community. The BECN has helped launch 2,760 new businesses in Northumberland, creating 3,660 new jobs in the community. These impacts directly strengthen our local economy and help foster thriving communities and families.”

In recognition of their significant 30-year milestone, the BECN is unveiling a new look and feel for their brand, including a new logo to reflect their commitment to innovation, excellence, and supporting the growth of local businesses.

The new logo includes the ‘BECN’ acronym, with an arrow swooping up through the letters, toward the top right corner. The arrow represents the planning, strategy, action, and growth that clients can expect from BECN services and programming. The upward motion also reflects the positive impact small business has on our community and the future of Northumberland.

“Northumberland is fueled by the talent, passion and dedication of our local entrepreneurs and small business owners,” states Warden Mandy Martin. “Small Business Week is a great opportunity to recognize these hard-working individuals and highlight their local businesses. I encourage community members to do their shopping locally – this week and year-round – to take advantage of the many unique products and services offered in Northumberland.”

This fall, the BECN will be launching applications for their bi-annual Starter Company micro grant program to support new and existing small businesses in Northumberland. Applications for new businesses will launch in October, with the application for existing businesses following in November.
