Cobourg Police – Cobourg Woman Charged with Dangerous Operation, Failing to Stop after Collision, Refusal of Breath Screening Device and Abandon Child (No Name Released)

A 38-year-old Cobourg woman faces charges after police responded to a motor vehicle collision on Saturday night.

On Saturday, October 7, 2023, at 9:45 p.m., police responded to a motor vehicle collision near University Avenue and Ontario Street in Cobourg.

Police investigation revealed that one driver collided with a car parked on University Avenue and fled the accident. The vehicle was located a short distance away, occupied by the driver and two children.

Police observed the driver showing signs of impairment by alcohol and issued a roadside breath screening demand. After several unsuccessful attempts, the driver refused.

As a result, a 38-year-old Cobourg woman was arrested and charged with dangerous operation, failure to stop after an accident, failure or refusal to comply with a breath screening demand, and abandoning a child under 10 years.

The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date. CPS is working with the appropriate community services to ensure the children’s continued well-being.
