Canada Flag to Fly at Half-Mast at NHH in Honour of Active and Former Auxiliary Volunteers Who Passed Away in 2022/23

In Community, Local

The Canada flag outside the main entrance at Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) will fly at half-mast today, September 27, in honour of the active and former NHH Auxiliary volunteers
known to have passed away over the last year.

Coordinated in conjunction with the Auxiliary’s Annual Meeting, also held today, this annual tradition recognizes the exceptional commitment of Auxiliary volunteers throughout the hospital.

In the last full year for which volunteer hours are available (2022), Auxiliary members collectively contributed 23,236 hours of time within NHH and are on-track to exceed that amount in 2023.

Auxiliary volunteers greet patients as they entered, support wayfinding, deliver water to patient rooms, offer a comforting voice in the Emergency Department, serve customers in the Little Treasure Shop gift shop inside the main entrance, and sort and sell gently used items donated to their community thrift shop, Petticoat Lane, to support the hospital’s capital equipment needs.

“As the NHH Auxiliary prepares to celebrate 100 years of service, it’s important to honour the many dedicated individuals, both past and present, whose volunteerism has supported our hospital teams in delivering quality, compassionate care,” said Susan Walsh, NHH President and CEO.

“Many Auxiliary roles were impacted as a result of the prolonged pandemic, but the Auxiliary’s commitment to NHH and generosity of spirit has not dimmed. Now, in 2023, you are returning stronger than ever. On behalf of everyone at NHH, thank you for all you do for NHH and the patients and families we serve. Today, we join the NHH Auxiliary members in fondly remembering 23 individuals with gratitude for their service to this community.”
