Breaking News – No Injuries After Vehicle Drives Through Main Entrance of Northumberland Hills Hospital

In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

There were no major injures after a car drove through the main entrance of Northumberland Hills Hospital on Tuesday, August 15, 2023.

At approximately 8:45 a.m. emergency services were dispatched to the main entrance of the hospital after a vehicle that was dropping off a person, accelerated forward, hit the hospital wall, then careened off the wall and drove completely through a section of the main entrance (atrium) coming to a stop after hitting a brick abutment.

When emergency services arrived, the two occupants of the vehicle had been taken into the hospital to be treated for minor injuries.

Police say the driver may have stepped on the gas instead of the brake and accelerated forward into the building.

The area was cordoned off until repairs could be made.

Police said there are no charges as the collision occurred on private property.

“The hospital remains fully accessible and open for business with the exception of the main entrance which will remain closed pending completion of the police investigation and inspection for structural damage,” said Susan Walsh, President and CEO.

“At this time, all incoming and outgoing patients and visitors are being directed by volunteers, staff and signage to use the Dialysis entrance or the Emergency Department entrance and we are working to get temporary way-finding signage in place. We thank everyone for their patience. Sincere thanks to our first responders for their quick reaction
and support.”
