Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland has announced he will also represent Northumberland County to some extent at the U20 Mayors’ Summit in India.

His invitation to the conference was announced last month. At Monday’s committee-of-the-whole meeting of Cobourg council, he thanked town staff for securing the invitation and shared more details.

“We are awaiting the formal details. However, I have also been asked to speak as a guest speaker to the U20 crowd on Cobourg’s circular economy and will lead a panel discussion on that,” Cleveland said.

“I have enlisted the services of the county and am undergoing an intensive training course on what this community has to offer. This is an amazing point of pride for the community as a whole, and I am honoured to represent our community and the county.

“And, of course, I am willing to hear all recommendations moving forward prior to the departure date, which is coming up quickly – July 4.”

Cleveland said it is worth celebrating that the world is looking to Cobourg as an example.

“We are speaking to mayors of Los Angeles, Miami, maxi-multi-million-dollar metropolises about what we are doing in this community.”

As well as town staff, Cleveland offered thanks to council and the broader community for doing the work that has attracted this favourable attention.
