Peterborough County OPP – Looking for Assistance in Theft Investigation of Dock

In Police Blotter

Members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are asking for the public’s assistance in providing information related to a theft of a boat dock from a residence on Crystal Lake.

On June 17, 2023, OPP officers received a call from a cottage owner on Crystal Lake advising that at approximately 1:30am the dock (see attached photo) and tied off boat were removed from the shoreline of their property. The dock and boat were then floated across the lake where the boat was untied, and the dock was taken apart and loaded on the back of a utility trailer before being taken away. The value of the dock has been estimated at over $47,000.00. The boat has since been recovered.

A local security camera was able to obtain an image of what appears to be a light-coloured SUV or pickup truck with a cap towing a trailer with the dock loaded on it (see attached photo) just shortly after 6:00am.

Investigators are actively looking for information that may lead to the identification of the suspect involved in this theft. Police urge the public to call in tips on this case, or others, to the Peterborough OPP at 705-742-0401, the non-emergency line (888) 310-1122 or to Crime Stoppers.

To serve our province by protecting its citizens, upholding the law and preserving public safety.
