Statement from Port Hope Mayor Regarding Incident at Jack Burger Sports Complex

Mayor Olena Hankivsky released a statement regarding an incident at the Jack Burger Sports Complex on Tuesday, June 13, 2023.

At approximately 8 p.m. emergency services responded to the Jack Burger Sports Complex for an adult male that it’s believed had a medical emergency in the pool.

Port Hope Police, Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services and Northumberland County Paramedics responded to the emergency.

The person was transported to Northumberland Hills Hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Hankivsky’s statement reads as follows:

“It is with a heavy heart and great sadness that I report that on the evening of Tuesday, June 13, 2023, an adult male passed away as a result of a suspected medical incident at the Jack Burger Sports Complex.

Municipal staff, who are highly trained in emergency response, acted quickly and appropriately, administering CPR in an effort to save the man’s life. CPR was continued until emergency personnel arrived and responded. He was transported to the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

On behalf of the Municipality, I offer my heartfelt condolences to his family and loved ones and all those in our community impacted by this tragic loss.

I would also like to acknowledge and thank those who responded onsite, including our own personnel for their commitment and dedicated service.”
