Cobourg Police – Two Belleville Residents Facing Charges (No Names Released)

Two Belleville residents are facing charges after police respond to a report of suspicious vehicle.

On Friday, June 9, 2023, at 6:25 a.m., police were called to the area of Elgin Street West for a report of a suspicious vehicle.

Police located a vehicle matching the description provided with two occupants. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was reported stolen from the Belleville area, and one occupant was wanted on two outstanding warrants.

As a result, the driver, a 39-year-old Belleville man was arrested and charged with the following offences:
1. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 Contrary to Section 354(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

2. Theft Under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) CCC

3. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime contrary to section 355(b) CCC

4. Fail to Attend Court: 145(2)(b) CCC

Subsequent investigation revealed the occupant in the passenger seat provided a false name to police and was on a release order not to communicate with the driver.

The 32-year-old Belleville woman was arrested and charged with the following offences:

1. Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(b) CCC

2. Fail to Comply with Release Order: Contrary to section 145(5)(a) CCC

Both accused were held for a show cause hearing on the charges before the courts
