Remembering Cobourg Police #221

Family, friends and citizens of Cobourg came out on Monday, May 15, 2023 to remember Cobourg Police Constable Chris Garrett.

Garrett was mortally wounded after responding to a phoney robbery call in the parking lot of the former hospital at Chapel and D’Arcy Street at approximately 3:15 a.m.

Though mortally wounded, Garrett managed to shoot his attacker in the leg with his firearm before succumbing to his wound.

The attacker had a manifesto of carnage that was planned but Garrett stopped the plan.

The 18-year-old was arrested at Northumberland Hills Hospital where his mother took him to be treated for his gunshot wound to the leg.

He was convicted of first degree murder on February 22, 2007.

Garrett’s mother Evelyn, his sisters attended the ceremony along with Cobourg Police Chief Paul VandeGraaf, Deputy Chief Jeff Haskins, Councillor Adam Bureau, friends, members of the Cobourg Police service along with retired members, OPP officers attended the informal gathering at the park.
