Port Hope Police Respond to Gun Call

In Police Blotter

It’s believed one person has been arrested following a incident in Port Hope on Wednesday, April 19, 2023.

At approximately 10 p.m. Port Hope Police were called to the area of Howard Street, just west of Ontario Street for a weapons call.

Port Hope Police were unavailable for comment, but one person said a friend came over to his residence with another person.

Shortly after arriving the two parties started fighting in the garage.

“Then he pulls this gun out and said he was going to shoot my mom and my dog,” said the person.

The suspect left the area and police called Durham Police along with Northumberland OPP.

A number of police cruisers circled the area of Cavan Street and Ontario Street while waiting for members of Durham Regional Police Tactical Team along with canine unit to arrive.

A helicopter from Durham Regional Police circled the area looking for the suspect as the canine unit looked in the woods west of the residence.

The person suffered a cut to the nose, lip and possible broken finger, but did not require medial treatment.

At approximately midnight the victim stated he was told by police the suspect had been arrested, but police have not confirmed.

Today’s Northumberland will update when more information becomes available.
