Cobourg Police – Cobourg Man Charged with Theft and Mischief (No Name Released)

A 19-year-old Cobourg man was charged with theft and mischief after police responded to a call for service in the west end of Cobourg.

On Monday, March 27, 2023, at 7:30 a.m., police were called to the area of William Street and Elgin Street for a report of a man on the roadway in live traffic. The individual allegedly caused damage to a passing vehicle.

As a result of the police investigation, police arrested a 19-year-old Cobourg man and charged him with the following offences:

• Mischief Under $5,000 contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

• Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm contrary to section 264.1(1)(a) CCC

Further investigation revealed the man’s involvement in a theft from a vehicle reported on March 17, 2023. As a result, the man was also charged with the following offences:

• Two counts of Theft Under $5,000 contrary to section 334(b) CCC

• Two counts of Trespass by Night contrary to section 177 CCC

• Mischief Under $5,000 contrary to section 430(4) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CCC)

The accused was held for a show cause hearing and remanded into custody.
