Peterborough County OPP – Traffic Stop Leads to Fraud Charges (Names Released)

(CAVAN-MONAGHAN TOWNSHIP, ON) – Two suspects are facing numerous fraud related charges after members of the Peterborough County Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) stopped a vehicle for speeding on Highway 115 on November 16, 2021. A fraud investigation began after numerous documents not belonging to the occupants were observed. Warrants for the arrest of the suspects were obtained with the assistance of the Peterborough County OPP Crime Unit and bank security advisors. One of the suspects was arrested on December 19, 2022. The other suspect is still outstanding.

Naima DIMIA (age 25) of Gatineau, Quebec was charged with:

• Fraud over $5000

• Fraud under $5000-four counts

• Fraudulent concealment-five counts

• Personation with intent-intent to gain advantage (identity fraud)-five counts

The accused appeared for a bail hearing before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on December 19, 2022. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on January 17, 2023.

Steve MWAMBA TSHIBASU (age 26) of Montreal, Quebec was charged with:

• Failure to comply with release order-other than to attend court

• Personation with intent-intent to gain advantage (identity fraud)-five counts

• Fraud over $5000

• Fraud under $5000-four counts

• Fraudulent concealment-five counts

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of the accused. Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the accused is asked to contact the Peterborough County OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers.
