Ontario Government Supports Arts & Culture in Port Hope

In Local

On Friday, December 9, 2022, MPP David Piccini attended the official recognition event for $68,600 in provincial funding towards reinvigorating arts and culture in the Port Hope area. The grant,
administered to the Municipality of Port Hope through the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Resilient Communities Fund, has provided public workshops, developed an arts strategy and
supported community outreach and awareness. Also in attendance were Port Hope councillors Todd Attridge and Adam Pearson, as well as OTF representative Ben Currelly.

“It is crucial that we support the arts in our community, and this funding will accomplish exactly that – providing the tools for groups in Port Hope to organize cultural events,” said MPP David
Piccini. “Our government will continue to fund important initiatives like this, and will ensure that Port Hope remains a cultural attraction of Southern Ontario.”

“The Resilient Communities Fund grant is enabling the Municipality of Port Hope to deliver, adapt, plan, and reinvent arts and culture events and festivals in our community,” said Mayor of
Port Hope Olena Hankivsky. “Support from this grant provides us with the resources and tools needed to collaborate on culture with our partners in the community and propel our plan to
continually improve and enhance our service delivery.”

The grant is part of $179 million in provincial funding distributed through Ontario Trillium Foundation’s (OTF) Resilient Communities Fund since 2020, which is designed to help communities recover from the pandemic. The money will support a number of activities, including new equipment and technology for use in community initiatives, and a communication campaign targeting local event organizers to provide resources.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF), an agency of the Government of Ontario, and one of Canada’s leading granting foundations celebrates 40 years of grant-making in Ontario and
making a lasting impact in communities. Last year, OTF invested nearly $209M into 2,042 community projects and partnerships, which included funding for the Government of Ontario’s
Community Building Fund. Visit otf.ca to learn more.
