Cougars Earn Win in Brantford; Host Wellington Monday

A goal each period paced the Cobourg Cougars to a 3-1 victory over the host Brantford 99ers in Ontario Junior Hockey League action Thursday night.
Carson Durnin, Kallaway Mercer and Sam Tonelli scored for the Cougars, which outshot Brantford 52-29.
Max Breon tallied Branford’s lone goal on a power play to cut the deficit to 2-1 at the time during the second period.
Goaltender Matthew Sbrocca made 28 saves to improve to 5-2-0 in net for the Cougars while Vyacheslav Gordeichuk turned aside 49 shots in a losing cause for the 99ers, which are now 3-13-0-2.
The Cougars (11-3-0-1) return home to face the Wellington Dukes (8-5-2-0) on Monday night. Game time is 7 p.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre.
