FASD Walk Takes Place in Cobourg

The Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder Awareness Day took place on Friday, September 9, 2022 in Cobourg.

The walk was about raising awareness that no amount of alcohol is safe during pregnancy.

FASD is a disorder causing impairment n physical, cognitive, sensory and behavioral development that affects four percent of the Canadian population.

FASD is caused by prenatal exposure to alcohol and occurs across the word in all cultures and levels of society.

Northumberland OPP and Port Hope Police took part in the walk on Friday starting on McGill Street at Victoria Park was also about raising awareness for individuals and families impacted by FASD that there is support from their community.

Around the downtown area, rocks painted like red shoes were placed at various locations.  Red Shoes Rock is a global awareness campaign giving voice and support to those affected by prenatal alcohol exposure.
