A witness said she was terrorized when she saw a person running east on Walton Street in Port Hope wearing a balaclava and carrying a large knife over the weekend.
But it turns out, what the witness saw was a person possibly getting revenge on a group of youths who played a game of Nicky Nicky Nine Doors on his girl friends house on Saturday, June 11, 2022.
It was approximately 6 p.m. when the woman who asked not to be identified was driving north on Queen Street.
The woman said she saw two people heading east on Walton Street when she noticed one person was holding a large knife and had a balaclava on.
The person with the knife and balaclava had a, “running down Walton Street with a really large knife.”
When the witness saw the person with the knife and wearing a mask running down Walton Street she was shocked and called 9-1-1.
The two met up and the one person removed the balaclava and the pair met up with a number of youths along Mill Street, just north of Walton Street.
The witness said the youths, “looked absolutely terrified.”
The 9-1-1 dispatcher told the witness to remain at a safe distance and that police were on their way.
A short time later the group dispersed, but the two people who approached the youths started yelling at people in the nearby condominiums.
“They were just freaking out.”
Police arrived a short time later and took the two people into custody.
“I was absolutely frightened.”
“It was the middle of the day on a Saturday and there is a young male with a mask on the main street, where we have tourists, we have locals, everyone in safe Port Hope wielding a large knife running down the street.”
“When he pulled that mask up, he looked like he was on a mission to do something and that was the terrifying part.”
Port Hope Police Inspector Katie Andrews said apparently the incident was over a group of youths playing “Nicky, Nicky Nine Doors.”
The youths “Nicky Nicky Nine Doored,” the door of a 16-year-old female from Port Hope and left.
A 16 year old female from Port Hope and the 19 year old male were arrested . The female was later released without charges. The 19 year old local male was charged with possession of a weapon, and Fail to comply with a release order as he was currently in front of the courts for assault with a weapon x2. The 19 year old will appear in court to answer to the charges.
The witness advised police she never saw the male brandishing the knife at any of the youth they were yelling at.
