The host St. Mary’s Thunder have advanced to the semifinals at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) boys A/AA rugby championship tournament in Cobourg.

After settling for a 7-7 tie against Streetsville on Thursday morning, the Thunder blanked F.E. Madill 38-0 in an afternoon match-up in preliminary play.

Streetsville defeated F.E. Madill as well, 8-7, to also finish 1-0-1, but St. Mary held the tiebreaker advantage to advance.

The Thunder will face Crescent in a championship semifinal matchup Friday at 3 p.m. at St. Mary Catholic Secondary School.

Port Hope’s Trinity College School won its opening game 31-10 over Port Perry, but fell 12-10 to top-seeded Adam Scott Collegiate from Peterborough in the afternoon and won’t be advancing on the championship side of the bracket.

TCS will face Henry Street in a consolation semifinal match Friday at 12 p.m. at St. Mary.
