Truck Knocks Out Power to Approximately 3,000 Hydro Customers in Cobourg

In Local, Police Blotter

Approximately 3,000 customers of Lakefront Utilities were without power for most of the afternoon on Tuesday April, 19, 2022.

At approximately 12:15 a vac truck was heading southbound on Ontario Street, just south of Sutherland Crescent when it struck wires across the roadway. The boom of the van truck wasn’t fully retracted, catching the wire, then snapping the hydro pole blocking the roadway.

The driver wasn’t injured, but hydro was out to approximately 3,000 people including numerous businesses such as McDonald’s and WalMart for most of the afternoon.

It was expected repairs would be completed by 6 p.m.

The driver was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with fail to secure equipment.
