Have Your Say on Welcome Intersection Changes

In News

Northumberland County will welcome your input in the redesign of the three-way county-road intersection in Welcome at a virtual public-information session on April 14.

The county is reviewing options for operational and safety improvements at this juncture of County Road 2, County Road 10 and County Road 74 (also known as Dale Road) in the Municipality of Port Hope. Before moving forward on further planning and design activities, the project team hopes for public input at the April 14 Public Information Centre.

Prior to the construction of Highway 401, this intersection was part of the provincial-highway network. Traffic volumes these days are lighter with more local traffic.

Based on input from residents and road users, it was identified as a location for potential improvements. Data related to current traffic volumes, speeds and incidents has been collected and used to review how the intersection’s lay-out, three-way-stop traffic-control option, lane configuration, pavement marking and sightlines affect traffic operations.

The county has retained CIMA+ to identify options for this intersection’s reconstruction to address operational and safety issues, and then evaluate the feasibility of implementing options that have been developed. These include a roundabout configuration and a conventional all-way-stop configuration with a reduced number of lanes.

On April 14 from 6:30 to 8 p.m., representatives of Northumberland County and CIMA+ will host the virtual Public Information Centre on Zoom. It will include a presentation from the project team, an overview of the need for improvements to this intersection, options under consideration and next steps.

There will be an opportunity for participants to provide feedback and ask questions, and information will also be provided about how members of the public can get involved during the next stages of the project.

Join online at zoom.us/join or by phone (toll-free) at 1-855-703-8985 (meeting ID 879 5487 0738, password 469678).
