Breaking News – Cobourg Acting Fire Chief Leaving Position

In Editor Choice, Local

Today’s Northumberland has learned Cobourg Fire Department Acting Chief Gene Thompson will be leaving his position.

Thompson has been Deputy Chief of the department for nine years and assumed the role of Acting Fire Chief when Mike Vilneff retired in February.

Thompson will be starting his new position as the Fire Chief of Brighton on Monday, March 21 and his last day with the Town of Cobourg will be Wednesday March 16th.

CAO Tracey Vaughen said, “this is a great opportunity for both Gene and his family. This new role will be much closer to home for him and allows him to have more time with his loved ones while still doing what he loves to do.”

Vaughen said the town is working on the next steps with respect to interim measures.
