Deputy Mayor Suzanne Seguin offered a tip of the hat to the Cobourg Police Auxiliary at this week’s council meeting for their recent Cram-A-Cruiser event at Wal-Mart for the benefit of the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank.

When she made her donation around 3:30 p.m., she noted, the three cruisers looked pretty full. In the end, she did some research and reported that the event brought in 3,176 lb. of food in six hours, along with $1,633.75 in cash donations and $100 in gift certificates.

“They filled a cruiser, truck and ambulance entirely once, and had to get Fare Share to pick up the food twice during the day,” Seguin said.

Councillor Aaron Burchat had more news about the Cobourg Police Service and their special Family Day activity – Toboggan With A Cop.

“Come out and sled down a hill with a cop,” Burchat said.

“I saw uniformed officers taking kids down a hill and going down themselves. It looked like a very good time for all.”

The police also offer homes and businesses the Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design, free on-site assessments of homes and businesses in the interests of enhancing their security.

Burchat also had year-to-date statistics from the fire department – 22 training exercises, 33 fire-prevention activities and 125 incidents. Among these were four fires, burst water pipes at a home and industry, and three incidents of carbon-monoxide exposure.

Following up on a recent incident in another municipality, Burchat reminds Cobourg residents that members of the fire department carry carbon-monoxide detectors that are in working order.
