Cobourg – Warm Up Locations Available for Relief from Cold Weather

In City Hall, Community, Local

Four locations in Cobourg open for residents to stay warm and utilize washroom facilities.

In response to the extreme cold warning, the Town of Cobourg would like to ensure residents are prepared for temperatures that are forecasted to near -30 degrees Celsius with the wind chill values.

Extreme cold warnings and wind chill creates an elevated risk to health such as frost bite and hypothermia. Risks are greater for young children, older adults, people with chronic illnesses, people
working or exercising outdoors, and those without proper shelter. Residents are advised to call 911 if an individual is in distress or requires immediate assistance.

For those outside seeking a temporary spot to ‘warm up’ the following locations are available:
• Victoria Hall Lobby: Located at 55 King Street West, operating from 8:30 a.m.- 4 p.m.
• Cobourg Police Service Lobby: Located at 107 King Street West, operating from 8 a.m.- 8 p.m.
• Cobourg Public Library Lobby: Located at 200 Ontario Street, operating from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m.
• Northumberland Mall: Located at 1111 Elgin Street West, operating from 10 a.m.- 6 p.m.

“Despite the pandemic, and where we can safely do so, the Town of Cobourg will be providing locations across town where residents can stop in to warm up from the extreme cold temperatures,”
said Tracey Vaughan, Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Cobourg. “We are committed to providing these pop in ‘warm up’ opportunities as we did before the pandemic in our municipal
buildings. Please everyone, take good care and stay safe.”

Washroom facilities will be available at all ‘warm up’ locations listed above. All public health protocols regarding COVID-19 will be followed to ensure the safety of all those accessing these locations, including physical distancing, mandatory use of masks, hand washing, no food or beverages, conducting symptom screening and monitoring and enhanced cleaning procedures.
