Quinte West OPP – Police Pursuit Results in Multiple Charges

In Police Blotter

The Quinte West Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid multiple charges following a police pursuit.

On December 28, 2021 at approximately 8:45 a.m., Quinte West OPP attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a vehicle on Highway 401 eastbound near Aikins Road in Quinte West for speeding. The vehicle accelerated to speeds in excess of 170 kilometers per hour and due to public safety reasons, officers discontinued.

Investigation led officers to an address in Belleville, where it was learned that the vehicle was allegedly taken without the owner’s consent. While officers were at the residence, the accused drove by on two separate occasions where he again failed to stop for police. The vehicle was located down the street from where it was taken, and the accused was arrested a short distance away hiding behind a tree.

Matthew CORBIN, 26 years old of Toronto has been charged with the following offences:

  • Flight from peace officer;
  • Dangerous operation of a motor vehicle;
  • Operation while prohibited under the Criminal Code;
  • Take motor vehicle without consent;
  • Failure to comply with undertaking – two counts; and
  • Race a motor vehicle – Excessive Speed (Stunt Driving)

The accused was held in custody and is scheduled to appear for bail at the Ontario Court of Justice in Belleville on December 29, 2021.
