DRPS completed its first day of the Festive R.I.D.E program, stopping more than 261 vehicles and charging four drivers with impaired driving offences.
Durham Regional Officers conducted R.I.D.E checks in Whitby, Pickering, and Oshawa, with the following totals (the numbers in brackets reflect 2020 first two days totals for comparison):

1 (3) People received “3 Day Suspensions” for registering a “WARN”
1 (1) Novice Driver received a 3, 7 or 30-day Licence Suspension

After the first day, the Festive R.I.D.E team has charged a total of four motorists for impaired driving offences (3 by alcohol,1 by drug). Last year at the same time, seven had been charged. Another six motorists have registered a WARN on a roadside screening device and had their driver’s licence suspended for three days. Last year at the same time, three driver’s had their licence suspended for registering a WARN.

Note: Under the Ontario Highway Traffic Act, anyone charged with a drinking and driving criminal offence will have their driver’s licence suspended for 90 days and their vehicle impounded automatically for 7 days.
