Cobourg Collegiate Institute Golf Team Has Strong 2021 Season

In Sports

The Cobourg Collegiate Institute Golf Team was represented by Tanner Robinson, Shannon Ferguson, Jacob Harnden and Aidan Tedford at the varsity boys level. Lynsey Gillespie was the lone girls player this year.

After South Kawartha qualifying, the boys competed at the Kawartha Championships.

Playing in wet conditions at Pinecrest Golf Club the boys managed to finish third, thereby qualifying for the COSSA Regional Tournament.

At COSSA the boys again faced some wet weather and Baxter Creek Golf Club played much longer than its 6241 yards.

CCI trailed the leaders, East Northumberland Secondary by 12 shots with only one CCI golfer left on the course.

Tanner Robinson came in with a score of 79. With the best 3 of the 4 team scores counting, Tanner’s score knocked out a score of 92 and CCI won the team event at COSSA by one shot.

The OFSAA championship was held at Glen Eagle in Bolton, Ontario on October 13-14.

The Wolves faced some of the best young golfers in Ontario.

In the end CCI finished fourth in the team event, just 8 shots out of a medal.

Individually, Jacob Harnden and Tanner Robinson both finished with two day totals of 162, to tie for 17th.

Although disappointed with finishing so close to a medal, the Wolves were really pleased with their performance.

With three members of the team returning next year, their coach, Scott Parr, believes they have a real chance at a medal.
