A mobile pop-up vaccination clinic held at the LCBO in Cobourg had a surprising number of people getting their first shot of the vaccine.
Volunteer Paul Allan said the mass immunization clinics are closing and the Haliburton Kawartha Pine Ridge District Health Unit is switching to pop-up clinics at various locations throughout Northumberland County.
The Health Unit and volunteers set-up outside the LCBO on Elgin Street from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday and Friday.
The line-up on Thursday was long when they opened up, and Allan said it was even longer on Friday.
“It’s all about some of the things the government is saying now that passports are going to be necessary to get into certain non-essential places. And more and more businesses and industries are demanding it.”
The trend so far during the last two weeks is approximately 33-percent of people getting the vaccine are getting first time shots.
One Wednesday, 202 people received their vaccine and of that 88 of them were getting the needle for the first time.
On Friday, 100 people received the shot and of that, 45 were getting them for the first time.
Alex Beckman said he agrees with what the government is doing, but it wasn’t a priority to get the vaccine – until Friday.
“With the new passport thing coming out, I want to go on vacation eventually so I’m going to have to get it.”
