Quinte West, ON: The Trenton Golden Hawks are fresh off their Rookie Camp and the 13th Annual Peter Huff Memorial Golf Tournament in the past week.
The team is getting prepared for the 2021-22 season and with that, a new crop of exciting players who will not only represent themselves, and each other, but also the City of Quinte West, and the Ontario Junior Hockey League.
Golden Hawks Director of Operations John McDonald says, “Each and every year, in conjunction with the family of the later Peter Huff, the Golden Hawks present a scholarship to a former Golden Hawk moving onto post-secondary education.” He adds, “When the pandemic shut down team play, it also stopped us from awarding a player with the annual scholarship. We want to change that.”
Father of Peter Huff, Lanny Huff says, “We are honoured to not only be presenting one former Trenton player with a scholarship of $1,000, we are handing out three. Congratulations to Kyle Robinson, Cameron Gaylor, and D’Aartagnan Joly.”
“Cameron, Kyle, and D’Artagnan are moving on in their studies, and in their hockey career as well. It is also tremendous the three of them are going to be in the same hockey program at Brock (Badgers) University in St Catharines. They are not just hard working players and good athletes, they are fine young men.”
Kyle Robinson came to Trenton from the Notre Dame Hounds in the SJHL and immediately made an impact. He was on an almost point a game pace when the regular season finished. The Newfoundlander was on the top D-pairing when play stopped in 2019-20. In exhibition play during the 2020-21 COVID season, he helped lead Trenton to the first ever Hasty Ps Cup.
Cameron Gaylor was an offensive juggernaut for Trenton over his two years in Quinte West. In 2018-19 and 19-20 he picked up 87 points in 89 games. The former OHL’er signed with Brock in May 2020, and will get an opportunity to suit up this fall.
D’Artagnan Joly only played 13 games with Trenton in the 2019-20 season, however was an impact on and off the ice. The NHL drafted Joly racked up 19 points in 13 games, before returning to the QMJHL. He is expected to be a key part of the Badger offence when hockey resumes later this year.
Each of the players will receive $1,000 towards their education
