Candidate for Green Party In Northumberland/Peterborough South Selected

In Local, National

The Green Party of Northumberland-Peterborough South Electoral District Association met on the morning of August 23rd to acclaim Christina Wilson as candidate for the Green Party in the Federal election.

Born and raised in rural Northumberland County, just outside of the Hamlet of Grafton, Christina Wilson is a teacher and Vice President of the KPR ETFO Occasional Teachers’ Union.

Christina was inspired to run for the Green Party because she believes that rural populations are unfairly treated and even ignored by the political mainstream parties and need a strong voice in government to represent them.

A descendent of five generations of farmers, Christina is committed to facilitating ecological agricultural methods and promoting sustainable practices that encourage healthy eating.

As a mother, Christina is also deeply concerned about the future we will be leaving future generations and is committed to advocating for real climate action.

She believes that real climate action means applying this same commitment to ecological wisdom, investing in Green approaches to other industries and to green job creation in our communities.

Watching the impacts of the pandemic on her neighbours has made her ever more conscious of the importance of investing in programs like Universal Basic Income (UBI) that make sure no one is left behind.

Christina has lived in Cobourg for the last 10 years with partner Stephen, and their two children, Chloe and Destin. She also sings with the local Women’s choir, Choral Legacy, sits on the board of directors for the Grafton Green Thumbs, and has been active with the local Green EDA.

Christina looks forward to championing Green values and policies – including real climate action, good green jobs and UBI – and ensuring the path to a sustainable future is front and centre throughout this election.
