Update – Cobourg Police – Arrest Made in Assault Investigation

A Cobourg man has been arrested and charged with assault as a result of a police investigation.

On the evening of July 4, 2021, police responded to a report of a fight between three individuals in the area of
Division Street and James Street.

Two individuals were transported to the hospital by ambulance and treated for their injuries.

Members of the Cobourg Police Service Criminal Investigation Branch, with the assistance of uniform officers
and Forensic Identification Services, opened an investigation. Several witnesses were interviewed, and a
shotgun was seized.

As a result of the investigation, 21-year-old Cobourg resident Daniel SHERWIN was arrested and charged with
the following offences:

Aggravated Assault – contrary to section 268 of the Criminal Code of Canada

Careless use of a firearm – contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm – contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose – contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code of
Canada
SHERWIN was released on an Undertaking with strict conditions and a future court date.
