A 12-year-old Cobourg boy is paying it forward after the community helped him out recently

.While fishing in Cobourg in May 2021, Jonas Leavitt had his fishing gear stolen just a few metres from where he was fishing.

Through the efforts of Cobourg Police Constable Nick Moeller and local businesses, Leavitt had his equipment replaced within a week and was back at fishing.

On Tuesday, June 22, 2021, Leavitt wanted to “pay it forward” in helping someone else.

Leavitt donated his almost brand new bicycle that he doesn’t really ride.

“I just want to give back what I got.”

When Leavitt was in need of help the community came forward for him, and if his bike will help someone else, he’s all for it.

With the help of Constable Moeller, who searched out various agencies in the area with the help of Rebound Youth and Child Services it was decided Tonner (age 12) from Brighton would get the best use out of the bicycle and it was presented to him.

“It’s infectious,” said Moeller.

“Jonas is 12-years-old and he became of the mindset like, “the community helped me so I need to help somebody else,” so it’s great to see.”
