Art Gallery of Northumberland Receives Prestigious Award

In Community, Local

The Art Gallery of Northumberland (AGN) is honoured to be the 2021 recipient of the Cleeve Horne Award, presented by the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA). In acceptance of this award the AGN has received $2000 for the purpose of acquiring an artwork from an exceptional emerging artist, chosen by the AGN, for the gallery’s Permanent Collection.

This award was established by the estate of Cleeve Horne, past president and member of the OSA, as a way to
support galleries and emerging artists in Ontario. Each year an Ontario public Art Gallery is selected with the
request that the monetary contribution will support an up-and-coming artist. In 1996, Horne was recognized
as “one of Canada’s finest portrait painters and sculptors” when he was made an Officer of the Order of
Canada.

Founded in 1872, the Ontario Society of Artists (OSA) is Canada’s longest continuing art society. As a
professional, not-for-profit association for visual artists living and working across Ontario, their mandate is to
promote the visual arts through exhibitions, special projects and arts advocacy.

As Northumberland County’s largest public art gallery, the AGN plays a leading role on local, regional and
national stages through exceptional exhibitions, programs and collaborations. It strives to be an inspiring
institution that serves as an educational resource, a hub of artistic and cultural energies for local citizens, and
a tourist attraction for all audiences.

Virtual AGN – There are many ways to stay connected with the AGN during this time, follow us on our social
media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. Visit our website at artgalleryofnorthumberland.com.
