One person was taken to hospital after a boat and camper trailer erupted in flames in Hamilton Township on Sunday, June 6, 2021.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. Hamilton Township firefighters from Baltimore Station responded to the fire on Stu Black Road north of Dale Road.

Firefighters knew they had a working fire when they could see thick black smoke rising from the area.

When crews arrived a boat and camper trailer were engulfed in flames.

Firefighters knocked down the flames quickly but both the camper and boat were completely destroyed.

Hamilton Township Deputy Fire Chief Mike Robinson said its believed the owners were transferring fuel from a barrel back into the boat when a spark ignited.

Two men were working on the boat and one suffered non-life threatening minor burns to 20% of his body and was taken to hospital.

With the boating season underway, Robinson said, “if you are going to be doing any transferring make sure you eliminate all ignition sources. If you are using any pumps or items to transfer that fuel that you use the approved pumps and materials to do so.”
