Update – Durham Police – Car Meet in Pickering Draws Large Crowd

Investigators have arrested a 19-year-old man from Clarington in relation to the car rally last Sunday in Pickering.

Members of the West Division Traffic Safety Unit investigated an incident involving a blue Hyundai Elantra driving dangerously during the car rally on Sunday, May 23, 2021. The suspect was observed spinning the vehicle in an uncontrolled manner, nearly missing individuals gathered around, before colliding with another vehicle.

Mitchell POWELL-GALIFFI, age 19, of Courtney Street in Clarington is charged with Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance; Fail to Comply with Section 7.0.2 Order of the Reopening Ontario Act and Failing to Report Accident of the Highway Traffic Act. He was released on an Undertaking.

Police are continuing to investigate matters involving the car rally.
