Retrofitting A Sidewalk Into Existing Landscape Has It’s Challenges in Cobourg

Director of Public Works is asking people to hold off judgement on the sidewalk along Abbott Boulevard in Cobourg.

With the cement for the sidewalk being poured there might be more curves in the sidewalk than the skateboard park just a block away with the “ups and downs” but Laurie Wills said, “I would ask that any judgement of the sidewalk be deferred until it has been completed please.”

Wills said the sidewalk is being constructed within accessibility standards.

Stating that retrofitting a sidewalk into an existing landscape has it’s “challenges.”

“Right now, it looks especially exaggerated because it hasn’t been backfilled to meet the existing adjacent grades. So far the project has been fairly well received with the local residents and the contractor is doing a great job.”
