Northumberland County – County Realize Significant Savings on Two Items

In City Hall

By Cecilia Nasmith/Today’s Northumberland
Northumberland County enjoyed some significant savings on two recent projects, council’s Finance and Audit Committee learned at its February meeting in a report from Manager of Purchasing and Risk Management Service Carl Bonitto.

Bonitto was not present at the meeting, but his report was presented and Director of Finance Glenn Dees explained that quarterly reports on procurement activities are routinely presented to council to itemize all purchases between $100,000 and $500,000.

In the most recent quarter, the report noted that five bids were posted on the county purchasing website. Two bids received and awarded during that term fell into the $100,000-to-$500,000 range.

20-36 RFQ for the felling of ash trees along county roads was awarded to Tree Tech tree and property maintenance specialists on their bid of $101,760, which is about $99,573 under what was budgeted.

20-39 RFQ to supply and install an accessible lift at Maple Court in Colborne was awarded to Jeffery G. Wallans Construction Ltd. on their bid of $188,103.36, which is about $28,761.64 under what was budgeted.

Upon a vote at county council’s Feb. 17 meeting, the surplus amounts (totalling $128,334.64) will be transferred to their respective reserves for financing future needs.
