Check Out Santa’s Workshop in Cobourg’s Victoria Park

In Community, Local

In response to a call from Experience Cobourg and the Downtown Business Improvement Area, a group of businesses has put together something special for the kids this Christmas.

The Santa’s Workshop trailer set up front of the Victoria Park bandshell is the result.

It was created to answer their call for displays for a static Santa Claus Parade, since the COVID-19 pandemic made the regular parade impossible for this year.

Steve Wilkes of Get In The Loop Northumberland was part of a team that had representatives from Warriors Axe Throwing, Beyond Sign and Design, Keep It Rolling, JJ’s Steak and Burger, Media Vandals and B & D Liquidation. They wrapped a trailer donated by Brian Mercer, provided lights and trees, and set it up with a little bonus.

“Within the context of the wrap, there’s a scavenger hunt,” Wilkes said.

“The kids can run around the trailer looking for a whole bunch of different objects.”

They are also asking people to “take a selfie with your favourite elfie,” tag the shot #ExperienceCobourg, and post it on Facebook or Instagram. Then on Dec. 19, they will pick a couple of winners who will receive artificial pre-lit Christmas trees.

Something special is planned for Saturdays as well – on Dec. 12 and 19 between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., the trailer will be open to collect donations of food to help make Christmas brighter for struggling local families.

Wilkes is proud of how everyone jumped on board to create something positive for the community.

“We were happy to step up and figure out how to make this year fun for the kids,” he said.
