Cobourg Police – Woman Charged with Operation While Prohibitied

On Wednesday, October 28th, police received a tip that a woman with a suspended driver’s license was operating a vehicle on D’Arcy Street in the Town of Cobourg.

Police located the described vehicle parked and unoccupied. The vehicle was later observed travelling southbound on Cottesmore Avenue, and police conducted a traffic stop.

As a result of the traffic stop, 71-year-old Denise Palermo of Cobourg was arrested and charged with the following offences:

1. Operation while prohibited contrary to section 320.18(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

2. Owner operate vehicle- no insurance contrary to section 2(1)(a) of the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

3. Drive motor vehicle – no validation on plate contrary to section 7(1)(c)(i) of the Highway Traffic Act

4. Fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle contrary to section 7(5)(a) of the Highway Traffic
Act

The accused was subsequently released on an undertaking with a future court date. The vehicle was towed for a 45-day impound.
