Northumberland County – Your Input is Needed at Official Plan Review

In City Hall

By Cecilia Nasmith/Today’s Northumberland
Warden Bob Sanderson hopes for a good – even if only virtual – turnout for the Oct. 28 Northumberland County Official Plan Update public meeting.

It will take place from 7 to 9 p.m., Sanderson said at the October county-council meeting.

Municipalities are required to review their Official Plans every few years, he said, but he hopes the one in the works can provide guidance for the next 20 years.

He hopes that, in turn, would put the county in a strong position for 2051, by which time current provincial forecasts say Northumberland’s population will be about 122,000 and the workforce will grow to about 44,000 jobs.

It’s a comprehensive document covering a multiplicity of areas from natural heritage, water resources and agricultural policy to land use and affordable housing.

“We are looking for lots of participation,” the warden said.

“It’s a very important process, and certainly the more involvement we can get from the residents of these municipalities, the better the plan will be.”

It will be a Zoom meeting, and details are available on the county website.
