Northumberland County – County Assumes Courthouse Road from Cobourg

In City Hall

With only one dissenting vote, Northumberland County council has approved the transfer of Courthouse Road to county jurisdiction from the Town of Cobourg as of its October meeting.

The uploading is the result of the big Golden Plough Lodge-Northumberland Archives and Museum redevelopment project that will see one new building to house both the long-term-care home (which has an entrance on Courthouse Road) and the archives and museum.

As part of the design exercise, the report by project engineering manager Denise Marshall said, “the transportation network was reviewed, and it was determined that a campus-type road network would be established which changes the function of the existing Courthouse Road.

“The proposed network will result in closing the east leg of Courthouse Road as a public road to become part of the internal private-campus road network, and leaving a portion of the west leg as a public road allowance to provide access to the existing plaza and Church On The Hill.”

The financial impact amounts to $1 plus legal fees and survey work, as well as the county’s commitment to maintain the western leg of Courthouse Road (minimal costs, the report said, given its length).
