HKPR District Health Unit – Northumberland County Resident Dies As A Result of COVID-19

In Editor Choice, Local

The local health unit is reporting the death of a Northumberland County resident related to COVID-19.

The individual passed away with COVID-19 listed as the cause of death.

“We offer our sincere condolences to this individual’s family and our thoughts are with them during this sad time,” says Dr. Lynn Noseworthy, Medical Officer of Health for the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit. “While we have not seen a high number of COVID-19 cases in Northumberland, this person’s unfortunate passing is a reminder that we cannot become complacent about this virus. It is still in our community and it poses a threat to all of us, especially our older and more vulnerable residents.”

Dr. Noseworthy says this means it’s more important than ever that everyone works together to protect themselves and others against the spread of the virus, especially with students returning to school in the next few weeks. Everyone is urged to continue following the public health recommendations to:

• wash your hands frequently and thoroughly

• cover your coughs and sneezes.

• practise physical distancing and wear a mask in public places or when you cannot maintain a six-foot
distance from others

• stay home when you are ill

Anyone who thinks they may have COVID-19 symptoms or has come in contact with someone who is ill with COVID-19 should visit the province’s website to use the online self-assessment tool. Residents can also call the Health Unit at 1-866-888-4577,
