Coast Guard Saves Cabin Cruiser From Smashing Into Docks in Cobourg Harbour

In Editor Choice, Local

A number of people came together to help a cabin cruiser drifting towards other boats in Cobourg Harbour on Saturday, August 29, 2020.

It was shortly after 2 p.m. and the 36-foot cabin cruiser which was anchored in Cobourg Harbour started to drift towards others docked at the marina due to high winds.

No one was aboard the boat at the time, so the boat continued to drift out of control.

A number of marina staff and boat owners saw the boat drifting closer to boats docked at berths at the marina.

The crew of the Canadian Coast Guard cutter Cape Rescue also noticed the boat drifting and quickly got in one of their rescue boats.

While a number of people including marina staff were on docked boats in hopes of protecting them, members of the Coast Guard arrived at the right time to prevent the boat from slamming into others.

High winds were a major factor in the mishap, but approximately 30-minutes later, the Coast Guard managed to safely secure the cabin cruiser to the centre pier.
