A scrapbook that was turned in to Cobourg police will now reside at the Cobourg Legion
On Wednesday, August 19, 2020, Chief Paul VandeGraaf of the Cobourg Police Service handed off a piece of history to the Cobourg Legion President, Bob Robison.
A scrapbook containing memorabilia dating back to World War II was turned in to the Cobourg Police Service on July 2. A potential family heirloom, this scrapbook includes pictures, news articles, and personal artifacts.
Special Constable Alicia Smith took on the investigation of finding the scrapbook’s rightful owner. The book belonged to Cyril J. Murphy of Cobourg. Unfortunately, Murphy has passed away. With no living relatives in the area, the lawyer to Murphy’s estate approved the handing over to the Legion for preservation.
“It is not often you come across something with this much significant history. This is an incredible piece that would be sad to lose,” says Chief Paul VandeGraaf, Cobourg Police Service. “I am happy to pass it over to the Cobourg Legion for preservation, and I look forward to what is discovered as they look through each page.”
“We’re here for the vets as well as the community.” Bob Robison, President Cobourg Legion Branch 133.
The scrapbook that was turned in to the Cobourg Police Service on July 2 after it was found discarded behind a building on King Street. Cobourg Legion President Bob Robison is accepting the scrapbook on the Legion’s behalf to store and preserve.
