Lockdown and Exceptional Search at Warkworth Institution

In Local

At approximately 10:50 a.m. on August 15, 2020, Warkworth Institution, a medium security facility, was placed in lockdown to allow Correctional Services of Canada (CSC) staff a safe environment to conduct an exceptional search.

The search was ordered after opened contraband packaging was located within the perimeter of institutional property. The contraband packaging was consistent with having been dropped by an Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV).

To ensure the safety and security of all parties, visits have been suspended until the search is completed. Normal institutional operations will resume as soon as Correctional staff consider it safe to do so.

The CSC is committed to preventing the entry of contraband into its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone.

CSC has set up a telephone tip line for all federal institutions so that it may receive additional information about activities relating to security at CSC institutions. These activities may be related to drug use or trafficking that may threaten the safety and security of visitors, inmates and staff members working at CSC institutions.

The toll-free number, 1-866-780-3784, helps ensure that the information shared is protected and that callers remain anonymous.
