Northumberland OPP – Police Apprehend Distraught Individual in Brighton

(MUNICIPALITY OF BRIGHTON, ON) – On Sunday August 16, 2020 at approximately 6:20 pm, members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a residence in the town of Brighton for a report of a distraught person who was barricaded in a room and refusing to come out.

The OPP Integrated Response Team, which includes the Emergency Response Team (ERT), Tactics Rescue Unit (TRU), Canine Unit (K9) and OPP Crisis Negotiators were called in to assist with this incident.

At approximately 2:30 am the individual was safely apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to a nearby hospital for assessment and treatment.

All resources have since cleared from the location.
