Locked Life Saving Equipment Attracts Attention

In Local

A lock around a life saving ring could have caused problems if there was an emergency along the water in Port Hope.

While emergency crews were dealing with a sailboat that was stuck at the entrance to Port Hope Harbour on Saturday, August 15, 2020, Today’s Northumberland noticed a lock had been secured around a life saving ring and rescue pole.

In the event of an emergency, the life saving ring or pole would be used to assist the person in distress in the water.

The lock was wrapped around the pole and through the ring making it impossible to use during an emergency.

Port Hope Fire Department were notified of the problem and cut the lock.
