Northumberland OPP – Brighton Resident Charged After Collision

On Saturday June 27, 2020, at approximately 10:45 pm members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Brighton Fire Department and Northumberland Paramedics, responded to a single vehicle collision on Chapel Street in the town of Brighton.

A white Dodge pick-up truck was travelling eastbound on Chapel Street when it veered to avoid hitting what the driver described as an animal. The truck sideswiped a tree and then hit a guide wire for a hydro pole.

Officers spoke to the uninjured driver and although n o alcohol was detected the officer administered a roadside screening device test to which the driver registered a “pass” result.

As a result of the investigation a 39-year-old resident of Brighton, Ontario was charged under the Highway Traffic Act with careless driving.
