Newtonville Family Helps Others During COVID-19

In Local

It was a chance for a Newtonville man to teach his son about helping others on Wednesday, June 24, 2020.

Ryan Oliver and his son three-year-old son Wyatt dropped off a van load of non-perishables at the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank.

Oliver spearheaded the drive along with his family in doing a fundraiser to help others since COVID-19 began.

Oliver has done a bottle drive along with a the three members of the band, Reckless Minstrel Buskers (RMB) who have also been performing online live in hopes of raising money for charities.

The group has raised $1,400 so far and are hoping to raise $2,000.

But the group felt it was time to give back to the communities on Tuesday and Wednesday they did just that.

Charities that have been rewarded through the effort of Oliver, his family and band have been Durham East Foodbank, Soper Creek Wildlife Rescue and the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank.

“A lot of people were effected losing their jobs and I’ve been very fortunate to keep my job through this whole time. There is a lot of people that are struggling and need a hand. We just figured it was the right thing to do.”

Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank employee John Drahun said the donation was “heart warming.”

“It’s fantastic that people rally together. There is a big need for it, so it’s nice to see that.”

“People are extremely generous in times of need.”

The GoFundMe is titled “We’re All In This Together” for anyone who wishes to donate and also have a live feed for other bands to help and join in or anyone can contact Ryan Oliver through Facebook.
