Update – Northumberland OPP – Loaded Prohibited Firearm and Heroin Seized at Traffic Stop

Northumberland OPP Seize Large Quantity of Purple Heroin and Uzi Sub-Machine Gun in “Routine” Traffic Stop

(CRAMAHE TOWNSHIP, ON) – On Saturday June 13, 2020, a traffic stop conducted by members of the Northumberland Detacment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) resulted in the seizure of drugs and a loaded prohibited firearm.

At approximately 2:15 am a traffic stop was conducted on a silver Toyota SUV for a Highway Traffic Act offence on highway 401 eastbound west of Brighton.

The vehicle that was stopped was found to be an Uber cab from the Durham Region that was transporting two adults and a young person. Officers noted there was a strong odour of cannabis emanating from the vehicle. The two adult passengers provided officers with false identifying information and were arrested. A search of the area resulted in the location and seizure of crystal meth, Xanax ,137 grams of purple heroin, cash and weapons including two knives and a fully loaded automatic submachine handgun.

As a result of the investigation Jai’Lyn MITCHELL-CHARLES (age 20) of Ajax, Ontario, Kahleed HUSSEIN-RAYNER (age 19) of Pickering, Ontario and a 16-year-old from Bomanville, Ontario, whose name cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act have been arrested and each charged with:

· Transport firearm, weapon prohbited device or ammunition in a careless manner
· Unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm
· Unauthorized possession of a weapon
· Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition
· Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was firearm
· Occupant of a motor vehicle knowing there was prohibited device or ammunition
· Possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm
· Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm/ammunition
· Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
· Possession of prohibited device or ammunition for dangerous purpose
· Traffick in schedule I substance – Heroin
· Possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000
· Traffick in schedule IV substance – other drugs
· Knowledge of unauthorized possession of weapon
· Traffick in schedule I substance – methamphetamines
· Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
· Carrying a concealed weapon
· Carry concealed prohibited device or ammunition

Kahleed HUSSEIN-RAYNER was additionally charged with:

· Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
· Obstruct peace officer

Jai’Lyn MITCHELL-CHARLES was additionally charged with:

· Personation with intent to avoid arrest
· Obstruct peace officer
· Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
· Possession of firearm or ammunition contrary to prohibition order
· Fail to comply with release order (5 counts)

All three accused were held in custody for a Show Cause hearing on Saturday June 13, 2020.
